(The answer is no, but it can drastically change your metabolism & give your brain superpowers.)
At 15 Minute Exercise we like to make the impossible, possible. Such as, building muscle & bone density in just 15 minutes of weight lifting a week. Sounds crazy, but hey, science is science. So on that note I’d like to talk about something else that’s just a little crazy. I’m sure by now you’ve all heard of this mysterious, miracle blend, Bulletproof Coffee, but do we really know what this mixture is? Through a little Internet research & personally subjecting myself as a kitchen guinea pig, I have gathered all the information you need to start on your path as a Bulletproof-er.
If we’re going to talk about Bulletproof Coffee there’s one name you need to know, Dave Asprey. Asprey is the genius behind the brew & basically a god of health in today’s world. Lets start from the beginning, so while Dave was causally strolling up Mt. Kailash in Tibet (presumably after weeks of 15 minute work outs,) he stumbled upon a little shop where he was served a butter tea. Feeling completely revitalized Dave had to do some serious research. After what was probably more research than I could ever imagine doing, Asprey found his answer. Blending high quality coffee (more antioxidants) with grass-fed, unsalted butter (more omega 3’s & omega 6’s) & last but not least, pure MCT (medium-chain triglycerides) oil, created a fat-burning, brain supercharging miracle beverage that had the power to turn anyone into a morning person & keep them going all day.
So if you haven’t already tried it you’re probably feelings a little skeptical about how this all tastes, let me reassure you – its delicious. I recommend you start small, fully blending 1 tbsp butter & half a tsp of MCT oil to your cup of coffee at first. Don’t worry about cream or sugar; the blended butter & oil make it amazingly creamy and smooth. From there you can start playing around with it, I found adding a little cinnamon or pumpkin spice mix gave it an amazing flavor & curbed any pumpkin spice latte cravings I was having. If you’re more of a mocha person adding a tsp of raw cacao powder will add that rich chocolately taste.
As exciting as discovering your new favorite beverage can be, we must not forget how this all works. The butter and MCT oil alone should provide enough fat in your system to fuel you until lunch. If you need to snack avoid anything high in carbs and starch, as these will reverse the fat-burning-fat effect. Snacking on a small handful of almonds or hummus with cut up vegetables are both easy & healthy alternatives to a piece of toast or bowl of instant oatmeal. For anyone following intermittent fasting, this is a great way to kick start your day without bringing you out of ketosis.
So get out your blender & give this a try – I doubt you’ll regret it & your body will thank you.
