Summer ON Strength Training

It happens every summer. We get our few precious months of sunshine in Calgary, and suddenly our routines take a hit. The healthy habits we've spent the past 6 months building start to slide, and we begin saying things like, "I'll just start again in September."

At Evolved, we've always been understanding when clients want to take some time off to enjoy summer. Life is about balance, but who are we kidding? The workout is only 15 minutes!

Come enjoy the A/C, say hi to your trainer, and do something amazing for your health before heading back out to enjoy the sunshine.

Here's the thing: your body doesn't know it's summer, so it doesn't pause the aging process because the sun is shining, and it doesn't maintain muscle because you're at the lake. Your body responds to what you consistently ask of it.

Use It or Lose It

One of the greatest benefits of strength training is that it helps you build and preserve muscle. Unfortunately, muscle is also something we begin to lose surprisingly quickly when we stop challenging it.

Research shows that strength and muscle can begin to decline after just a couple of weeks of complete inactivity. That doesn't mean all of your hard-earned progress disappears overnight, but it does mean your body starts adapting to doing less.

The good news is, it doesn't take much to maintain what you've built.

So how do we find balance? If you usually train twice a week - drop down to once. If you are out of town - give a virtual workout a try. We don't have to strive for perfection, or have an all or nothing mentality. A little still goes a long way!

Summer Is Exactly When You Need Your Strength

Summer asks a lot of our bodies:

  • Long hikes

  • Golf

  • Yard work

  • Carrying coolers

  • Playing with your kids or grandkids

  • Travelling through airports

  • Weekend projects around the house

Your Evolved workouts helps you enjoy all of those activities with more energy, better balance, fewer aches and pains, and a lower risk of injury. Instead of thinking of your workout as something that takes away from your summer, think of it as one of the reasons you can enjoy your summer so much.

Besides... we'd miss you too much if you disappeared until September.

Enjoy the sunshine, and we'll see you in the studio soon!
